As the saying goes…you are what you eat.

I for one, feel VERY strongly about feeding myself, my family, and my animals the best that I can!

20 years ago, I didn’t know that ingredients mattered – or even what MSG and GMO stood for. Over the years I have learned more and more about the foods we eat, where they come from, the chemicals we place onto our bodies and the chemicals that we use in our homes, and I have chosen to do better.

This is actually a picture of one of my orders being picked up in January. It was -20*F on this morning.

Azure Standard

Are we perfect? Absolutely not, nor will we ever be. But every day we are learning and growing and doing better than we did yesterday.

One company that truly makes this achievable for my family is Azure Standard. They provide us with good food and products that I can incorporate into our everyday lives.

Let’s take a deep dive into who Azure Standard is and I will give you my 100% honest opinion of them.

5 Things I Love About Azure Standard

Here are a couple of things that I love about Azure Standard.

  1. I can place my order online and never have to step into a store saving me time and a lot of money on impulse buying.
  2. They are a Christian company and are centered around Faith and Family.
  3. Their customer service is amazing! I have never had a complaint – they are so helpful when there is a problem with my order.
  4. It is a one stop shop! I not only purchase groceries from Azure, but all of my feminine products, bathroom products, cleaning supplies, laundry supplies, plant starts, seeds, animal feed, supplements and more!
  5. I can purchase quality products in bulk! This is not an option for me anywhere else within 4+ hours of my home.

What is Azure Standard?

Azure Standard is a distribution company based in Oregon. They deliver healthy food and products to individuals and to stores, restaurants, buying clubs and manufactures in the United States.

The company was born in 1987 as a necessity to provide good, healthy food to their community.

Their name is very unique as well. Azure is a shade of the color blue, which has been associated with law, justice, and honesty. In raising an azure standard, they want to place an honest standard in the marketing of food. They feel that the correct way to effect a positive change is not to attack the way it is being done, but to begin to do it right!

Azure Standards Core Values

Azure’s core values are extremely important to me. I prefer to purchase locally when I can, and when I can’t I look for small companies to support.

When shopping at Walmart or Target, where is your money really going? Who are you actually supporting?

The same is true for the grocery store. Yes, you might be supporting your local store, but who are you supporting within that store? Tyson Foods? Campbell’s? Eggs produced from chickens that never see the light of day?

If you are questioning why I don’t agree with supporting these systems, I highly recommend you watch two documentaries – Food, Inc. and Food, Inc. 2. This is WHY I raise my own animals for eggs and butcher, and purchase items from Azure, other small companies and individuals. Seriously – they are mind blowing – watch them!

This is obviously your individual preference, where you shop and who you support, but I know by shopping at Azure Standard that they have core values that are the heart of their business, and I can trust by purchasing products from them that I am supporting these core values as well.

Here are their Core Values in their words:

  • Core Value 1: Inspire Healthy & Abundant Living – This is what Azure is all about. It’s our mission, our vision and our passion.
  • Core Value 2: Provide Azure Standard Quality Service – Service is what business is about, what relationships are about, and what sets any company or person apart for who they really are.
  • Core Value 3: Build Relationships, Forgive & Embrace the Moment – Everything we do at Azure is about relationships – with our soil and plants, with family and team, with vendors and customers.
  • Core Value 4: Embrace Change, Practice Flexibility – Azure’s mission is to help change the world by creating more abundant health.
  • Core Value 5: Pursue Learning and Innovation – Learning and innovation are what have made it possible for us to implement the many stages of growth necessary to bring Azure where it’s at today.
  • Core Value 6: Dream our Passions, Live our Dreams – A vision without a task is just a dream; A task without a vision is drudgery; A vision with a task is the hope of the world!
  • Core Value 7: Support Independent & Family-Owned Ventures – This is one of our Core Values, not only because Azure is independent and family-owned, but because it is one of the core values that helped make our country great!
  • Core Value 8: Promote Healthy Food from Healthy Soil, We are What We Eat – The entire Azure Team promotes this Azure Core Value by endeavoring to be living examples of healthy lifestyles.
  • Core Value 9: Keep it Clean & Sustainable – This Core Value is one we each can embrace and practice all day, every day!
  • Core Value 10: Create Joy & Fulfillment through Serving & Making a Positive Difference in the World – Azure believes Serving and Making a Positive Difference in the World is the greatest mission any individual, community or business can be about.
  • Core Value 11: Exemplify Personal Transparency & Open Business Practices – Personal Transparency is the beginning of all meaningful relationships.
  • Core Value 12: Do More with Less – At Azure we always seek to emulate the principles of how nature is created to operate.

How to Place an Order with Azure Standard

Basically, you place an order online and your order arrives once a month on a delivery truck. You meet the truck and pick up your order at the drop location that you choose.

Here’s how you do that:

  1. First and foremost, you are going to head to Azure Standard’s website here.
  2. Next, you need to look for a “Drop Site”. Find the “Where we deliver” or the “Find a drop to join” area.
  3. Locate a drop that you would like to join. If there isn’t one close to you, you can inquire about starting your own drop site if it is near one of their routes. You may need to call Azure and talk to them directly. Here’s their phone number: 971-200-8350.
  4. Note: Each drop site has a Drop Coordinator. This is the person in charge of your making the site run smoothly and making sure all the orders are picked up. Communicate with them. They are there to help.
  5. Start shopping. Browse the many categories and products that Azure has to offer!
  6. Complete your order BEFORE the cutoff! You can “checkout” at any time and continue to adjust your order until your cutoff time. Just make sure you complete the checkout process.
  7. Watch your email or check “your account” for when your order ships (when the truck leaves the warehouse) and what day and time your order is set to arrive. Note: This day and time can change due to truck breakdowns or weather. Check your email often for the latest updates on your order.
  8. Note on your order how many boxes you are supposed to be receiving. This is usually accurate, but I have been missing a box before only to find everything in my order accounted for; they were just able to fit it all in less boxes than expected and since they’re HUMAN, they forgot to update the amount.
  9. Arrive at your drop location at least 15 minutes early. We have a wonderful group of “like minded” individuals at my drop, and we have become friends and enjoy going early to visit before the truck arrives. You can also choose to stay in your vehicle until the truck arrives and begins to unload. The choice is yours but be there a little early in case the driver is running ahead of schedule, so you can get him unloaded and back on the road to the next location.
  10. Get out of your vehicle and help! Lots of hands make small work. Help read off names on the boxes, or help others get their boxes to their vehicles. It is a joy to work together!
  11. Go home and go through all of your boxes. Inspect everything and make sure you received everything you ordered. If there is a problem, with something missing, or damaged, call Azure’s customer service within a day or two of receiving your order and they will happily fix it. They’re customer service is great! Here’s their phone number if you need it: 971-200-8350.
  12. Start adding items to your cart for next month!

My Honest Review of Azure Standard

Well, so far you have read all about Azure Standard and everything has sounded pretty good. You probably guessed and it’s true – I LOVE Azure Standard, and unless something drastically changes, I will continue to 100% fully support this company!

I place an order every month (and have every month for the past 5+ years), and continue to stock my pantry and home, barnyard, garden, and property with good clean food and supplies.

Azure does have some downfalls that you should definitely be aware of. The good outweighs the bad for me, but for you, it might be a deal breaker.

Let me explain:

  • The truck doesn’t deliver on a specific day of the week. For example, my order cutoff day is on a Thursday. My order is packaged and is generally loaded onto the truck and shipped out of the warehouse on Saturday or Sunday. Sometimes my order arrives on Monday, sometimes it arrives on Thursday. It all depends on the route the truck has been given and how many deliveries are ahead of your drop site.
  • The truck doesn’t deliver at the same time of day. Sometimes it is a morning drop, sometimes afternoon, sometimes it arrives in the evenings. This is the same as the delivery day, and a lot depends on the drops in front of yours.
  • Also note that sometimes the truck is delayed due to weather and breakdowns. This will also reflect when your order is delivered.
  • Azure’s communication is excellent! They send an email when the truck leaves the warehouse with your drop sites pickup date and time. If there is a delay, they communicate it very well through email with the delay problem and when the new day and time is. Keep an eye on your email for any updates. If you cannot make it at the new time, communicate with your drop coordinator or another individual at your pickup location and try to work something out to pick up your order.
  • There are no membership fees! While Azure does not have any membership fees, they do require a $50 minimum purchase and do have a shipping charge.
  • Sometimes an item in your order is missing, has gotten moldy, is damaged, or has leaked. Each Azure order is packaged by a PERSON! I know – crazy right!? They are human. Humans make mistakes!! Unfortunately, you are out that item for the month but knowing this is always a possibility helps you realize that you can live without that item until next month. It is frustrating, but such is life!
  • Here’s another one that might make you cranky – Sometimes you place your order, and an item doesn’t even ship! This happens when an item runs out of stock before your drop sites order cutoff. For every product on their website, there is an inventory count. The way to prevent having one of your items not ship is to check the inventory numbers before your order deadline and adjust it as necessary. Sometimes this means you need to change your order to a different size package of the same item or find a different one completely.
  • There is a credit card fee. You can also checkout using your ACH account (checking account number) to avoid the credit card fees.

Common Questions

Does Azure Standard deliver to my area?

You will need to go to their website and locate the “Where we deliver” or “Find a drop to join” area. From there you can search by your city, state, or zip code and find the closest drop locations to you.

Does Azure Standard sell produce or frozen items?

Yes, to both! They have wonderful produce that I order often and very high-quality frozen foods as well.

Do I have to place an order every month?

No. While you can place an order every month, there is no minimum order requirement. You can order every other month or every other year. The choice is yours and the prices don’t change based on your order volume or how often you order.

Is there a shipping charge?

Yes, there is a shipping charge. Trucks are very expensive to drive and maintain. You will pay a certain percent based on the amount that your order total is.

Why don’t you shop locally?

This is a great question, as I feel VERY strongly about this subject.
-I buy everything local that I can, and shop at my Farmer’s Market weekly from July-October.
-My local grocery store has a delivery truck that brings a large portion of the products from Salt Lake City, Utah – which is nowhere close to local for me.
-My local grocery store has some decent options but carry way more products from ‘big box’ stores versus small family businesses.
-Azure sells products in bulk, which saves me a lot of money.

Do you have other questions that I missed?

Ask them in the comments below and I will be sure to get back to you with an answer.
