Learn how easy it is to make Homemade Sloppy Joe’s with only 8 common kitchen ingredients!
You can make a lot for a crowd, a little for a weeknight meal, or double or triple the recipe and store some in the freezer.
Homemade Sloppy Joe’s
Toss out the little packets of sloppy joe seasoning with the ingredients you cannot pronounce.
After you try these, you will never need those silly little packets again!
And since these are all common kitchen ingredients, when a crowd decides to show up unexpectedly, you will be able to whip out a homemade meal in no time!
When and Where to Serve Sloppy Joe’s
To me, sloppy joe’s are a year round dish. I have made them for my family, for unexpected company, and for multiple potlucks. I have also eaten these at peoples homes, potlucks, branding parties, the fair, and many other events.
Summertime is probably the most common time for folks to serve these. Quick. Easy. Back outside to play!
What Goes Great with Sloppy Joe’s

- Sloppy Joe’s, Homemade Potato Wedges, and a Garden Salad
- Sloppy Joe mix served like grilled cheese. Butter two slices of bread. Put a slice into a hot skillet, add some sloppy joe mix, a slice of cheese, and the other piece of bread (butter sides out). Brown, flip, and brown the other side. Cut in half and serve with Homemade Macaroni and Cheese.
- Sloppy Joe’s, Fried Potatoes, Watermelon, and Cream Cheese Sweet Corn
- Sloppy Joe’s, Baked Potatoes, and Fruit Salad
- Don’t forget to make some Healthy Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups for dessert
Tips For Making This Recipe
Consider doubling or tripling this recipe. You can heat the leftovers up for a quick meal during the week.
Make extra to freeze for later. This is a trick that I do every time I make these. I fill a quart-sized freezer bag half to three-quarters full and freeze them flat on a sheet pan.
Once frozen, you can stack them nicely or find a container that you can ‘file’ them in so they’re easy to find in the freezer. And please, take it from me – DON’T FORGET to label them! Otherwise you will have a surprise if you are thinking you have something like tomato sauce when indeed, you actually grabbed a bag of sloppy joe’s!
Frozen sloppy joe mix is great to take on camping trips. It will thaw in the cooler on the way to your destination and you can just heat and serve for a quick, easy, and healthy from scratch meal.
